5 Reasons to Connect with Vanessa at Beehive and BaKED

If you’re looking for some skilled research, marketing and communications firepower for social change projects then you will gain tremendously by getting to know Vanessa, Principal of Beehive Consulting Group.  In addition, she is passionate about good, healthy, chemical-free, natural local food, social issues and building better communities wherever she goes.  Vanessa is well connected to food research, restaurants and retail and is the co-founder of BaKED Food Cafe in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia.  You can learn more about her below.

Why Connect?

1.  Beehive Buzz

Vanessa and her partners formed Beehive Consulting Group just recently with more than 40 years of combined research, traditional and new media expertise with offices in Halifax, Toronto and Vancouver.  They work with a range of small to large Canadian companies on the level neighbourhood organizations such as Regent Park Focus Youth Media Arts Centre, to nation-wide corporations, like Bell for example.  If you’re looking for a fast, flexible and superior team of research and communications people in Canada they’re it.  Asking to connect for advice can also help you.

2.  BaKED Genuine

In addition, if you happen to be in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia you’ll find that Vanessa is a co-founder of BaKED Food Cafe.  If you’re looking for the finest artisan breads, European pastries and other delicious, succulent and great tasting food on the East Coast then you absolutely must check out BaKED.

The other co-founders include Vanessa’s brother, Calvin and Sue who is a Red Seal certified master baker/chef (this fact is not widely advertised).  That means their food is of the finest quality plus some — it’s so little known by the locals that you, the reader are probably the first to know.  I keep telling Vanessa that they should make such a highly rated title obvious on marketing materials..

If you know anyone in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia who’s passionate about local, chemical free, natural food with management experience you should probably connect with Vanessa (her contact information is at the end of the article).  Hint, hint.

I will probably write a review about BaKED in the near future.

3.  Community in the Blood

Vanessa is a community animator for the City of Toronto’s Live Green program.  Community animators are people who go out into the city, run workshops and teach people new skills like growing food.  Animators strive to improve the community and environment, which fit Vanessa’s outlook perfectly.  Her recent container gardening workshop for example drew over 18 people with rave reviews.  As I already knew, the desire for growing food is continuing to grow with rising weather extremes and food shortages worldwide (in reality and in the news).

4.  Piece of Asia on the East Coast

In addition, Vanessa’s family has run one of (if not “the“) longest running Asian restaurants in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia for the last 33+ years.  So if you’re looking for someone who knows the people on the food scene in the area from small-scale farmers to the big movers and shakers then Vanessa is the one to tell you.

5.  A Whirlwind of Help

What sets Vanessa apart from many that I know is her endless desire to help others succeed.  Her knowledge and outgoing personality are second to none in my books.  For example, she’s worked with Ipsos and Environics on many major health research and communication projects.  Both companies share high esteem, taking turns as  Canada’s most well known and biggest marketing and research companies – their work is often featured in newspapers like the Toronto Star, Globe and Mail and television outlets.

My Connection?

Back in 2009, Vanessa’s passion for good food brought her to FoodCycles city farm where she volunteered for a time.  I happened to be the active coordinator.  It was our common love for growing healthy food and for the entrepreneurial spirit that allowed our paths to cross.

That and the fact I regularly lend an ear for thoughts on directions in life.

If you’re wondering why I’d promote someone who does some similar things to me then let me explain:

  • I truly believe you will benefit from knowing Vanessa and her partners.
  • Vanessa and her team are the some of the best I know in this part of the world.
  • I promote local businesses (my tag line does say business — broad, yes)
  • Beehive works with much larger businesses than I ever would (I prefer to help individuals or smaller groups — building block theory, you’re only as strong as your weakest link, help people reach their potential).

If you follow the idea that relationships are important than you would understand (if you want help, read Trust Agents by Chris Brogan and Julien Smith — a book I’m also going to review).

You can expect a personal one-on-one interview with Vanessa at some later date.

In Summary…

Vanessa is an intelligent, smart and outgoing person who can help you with your major research, marketing and communications needs.  She’s well connected to the food research, restaurants, and retail scene,  and has a passionate community spirit with boundless energy.  You almost wonder how she manages to handle all the projects she’s involved in.

PS.  If you’re looking for a wonderfully helpful connection or some incredible research, marketing or communications expertise connect with Vanessa Yu on LinkedIn (click here) or contact Vanessa through Beehive (click here).  Feel free to let her know that I pointed you in her direction if you want.

  • How Omnifocus Quick Entry Helps Capture Everything [Video]

Omnifocus Series:  Getting the Mind Clear (Part 1)

Omnifocus is a powerful tool for organizing your life, job search and other projects.  One of its most useful features for researchers and job hunters is the Quick Entry box.  This small yet powerful feature is what helps you to achieve effortless, effective and focused action.  The key is capturing everything so you miss nothing — fast, effectively and without thinking (too hard).

    So…

Skim Email for Important Stuff in 60 Seconds Flat

With the powerful Quick Entry feature of Omnifocus (a pop up box that opens while you’re using any application) you can go through your email like a hawk and save only the email messages that either:

    • a.  look important to do NOW
    • b.  you want to read later
    • c.  the just in case

Every other email stays there after you scan the headlines.  Heck, you email database is a storage box too.

Make sure you’ve got the Clip-O-Tron feature activated in Omnifocus and installed in Mail through the one click option in Omnifocus.

    Or…

Capture Jobs from Your Browser – Safari Fast

If you’re on a Mac (and of course you are since you’re using Omnifocus) then you’ll likely be using Safari web browser.  Go to any job site and save jobs that interest you and that you want to apply for using the “clipping” feature of Omnifocus right into the pop up Quick Entry box.

Of course if you’re doing market research for example then you can also save more than just job descriptions.  Pictures, PDFs, Word documents, Office documents, spreadsheets and anything else you can think of can be clipped, saved, put into the Quick Entry box and dumped in the “Inbox”.

The key is no hassle.  Dump it and sort it out later.

The only time Quick Entry is slowed down is if you use Mozilla browsers like Firefox and Google Chrome.

If you’re a stickler to details you can assign your Entries right to Projects or assign “ways to get it done” (i.e. call, write, email, etc.) right in the Quick Entry box.  Handy if you want to save time.

    And of course…

Save the Best for Later in Documents

You guessed it, Quick Entry means you can even capture information from inside Adobe PDFs, Word documents and spreadsheets.  Great for research and writing reports fast!

And when all else fails you can type write into the Quick Entry box or cut and paste what clipping can’t handle.  Great for those times you’re using web browsers like Google Chrome or Firefox.

Omnifocus’ clipping and Quick Entry box are useful because it allows you to capture ideas from outside and inside right into one little bowl without too much cutting, pasting and fidgeting.  Great for staying on top of emails, job search or just plain research.

Does your favourite task management program have Quick Entry or clipping ability?  Are there any new kids on the block that has better features? (I can think of one)  Is there a better way of capturing the best ideas and information from anywhere?
