Three Rules for These Times – Conversation Starter – HarvardBusiness.org: “Alan Weber has 3 rules that help people realize that a) that every crisis or opportunity shows us what we need and b) that everything is about people not business.”

(Via Harvard Business.)

1. Always ask the last question first.

The last question is: What’s the point of the exercise? Easier: Why are we doing this?

2. Keep 2 lists, one that kicks you awake in the morning and one that keeps you up at night.

Leaders and managers have to know themselves and they have to have passion for their work and concern for what’s going on. Otherwise they’re just killing time.

3. Don’t implement solutions. Prevent problems.

Solutions won’t mean anything if it doesn’t help to prevent new disasters. We have to anticipate and prevent and its smarter, cheaper and more effective to do so.
