“Sunny discusses the concept of “resistance”. It’s something he sees a lot with the people he helps. Resistance is both a physical thing and a mental thing – they block you from achieving your full potential – from being the best you can be … and fearless.”
Resistance is the main problem with achieving action and making a difference. The resistance lies within us all. I once described it to my colleague, Ailee after she’d done some fencing training with me.
Here’s what I said:
“How much do you know about electrical resistance in circuits? (likely lots right?)
A laissez faire diet is like having high heat and electrical resistance – it impedes flow.
“Blocked by a hill? Cut it down.””
What IS this resistance? Besides my poetic and metaphorical musings? It really boils down to 2 things. Your body. Your mind.
PHYSICAL RESISTANCE: The Clogged Pipe
If you’ve got an unhealthy diet and not enough exercise, you will begin to lose your will to act. You may feel tired, irritable, not willing to get off the couch when you get home. Research over and over has shown that a good diet and exercise (need I repeat them all?) boosts energy levels and keeps you razor sharp.
This is what I call destroying the physical resistance inside of you. It’s like clearing a clogged pipe. The water flows! The least resistance.
MENTAL RESISTANCE: The Mountain in the Mind, Fear of Climbing?
Mental resistance is also linked to physical resistance. Not feeling confident, having doubts creates a hill of resistance inside of your mind. Allowing fear to seize control of you only makes the hill that much higher.
Overcoming that requires a lot of positive self-talk, supportive friends and family and of course a fit body. Let positivity make you grow bigger than the hill of doubt or better yet face your doubts head on and cut the hill down. Then and only then will your thoughts, ideas and creativity flow like a waterfall.
THE FLOW UNLEASHED
Resistance is like a hydro dam that people build to dam up the flow and hold in water. We build them large and they back up the water. It changes the life downstream, dries it up.
Water in the world my friends is the blood of life.
Shatter the dam and life returns as the water rushes forth.
In each and every one of you a rushing torrent of water waiting to be unleashed. Shatter the dam by recognizing it, taking a hammer to it, seeking the help of supportive friends and Sages and then let yourself flow.
PS. My visualization is in fact that of the void and fire – a much more aggressive “mental construct”. More later on that concept.
